The association regularly provides testimony on proposed laws and rules affecting key areas such as bidding procedures, energy use, employment practices, and taxation. NECA also serves as a vigilant watchdog over federal regulatory agencies, including the Department of Labor, OSHA, DOE, and GSA.

The Codes and Standards program supports the NECA Membership through the Codes and Standards Committee, by actively participating in the development of the NEC®. Codes and Standards also provides training through NECA Education and is responsible for the oversight of the National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS™) library.
